Lisbon was at least one of the stops I had actually heard of and new where it was before I started this tour. I admit that is not a huge achievement in my geographical knowledge however there are far more destinations which I challenge you to pin point on a map.
Taking off from Bilboa airport I flew west along the shore line for a while. I knew this wasn’t a direct path at all so checked the heading on the GPS and turned to head across the country. As I clocked many miles I guided my plane through many pockets of considerable turbulence. I’m not too sure what would have caused these differences in air pressure. My knowledge of Spanish topography is even worse than my geography. Having downloaded the weather information into the flight simulation, I found the turbulence added an extra level of immersion which makes the flight a little closer to realistic. Of course, none of this adventure takes place without me wishing I could be doing this for real.
Seeing some rather interesting buildings from the air I chose to circle Lisbon before contacting the airport to request landing clearance. Once on the ground I could research what these buildings were.
